Context
Designing a tool to aide people to find and plot a course for their ideal job. The goals of this project were to:
Connecting people to their dream job, whether it’s a job they have been trying to purse or one they may have not even knew existed. As well as helping plan a course for the career transition.
Help eliminate or minimize barriers that are hindering people from pursing pathways to these new careers.
Discover
User Interview Takeaways:
After sending out screener surveys, a total of 10 users were interviewed. After discussing details with users, I was able to start seeing patterns in their frustrations as well as their successes. The main patterns most of the users spoke to in their career change journey was “mentorship”, “skills”, and “uncertainty”.
Define
User Persona:
After compiling all of our interview data and organizing it, our team was able to create our persona Overwhelmed Olive.
Problem Statement
Overwhelmed Olive needs a way to gain insights into a new career path in order to determine a plan of action so that she can quickly and confidently transition into a new career.
How Might We?
How might we help Overwhelmed Olive gain insights into her new career path?
How might we ensure that Overwhelmed Olive stay confident throughout the process?
Design
Time to Sketch!
Finally it was time to put our pencils to paper! Our team started our sketching through a design studio, which means we each sketched out how we thought the flow would look going off the user flow for guidance. We also knew that we would sketch a desktop format based off of prior screener surveys/ user interviews.
Once we completed our rapidly iterated web designs, our group was able to pick our favorite aspects from each of our members and compile them into one design. On the final paper prototype we performed a series of usability tests. We took the feedback from the tests and then proceeded to develop a mid-fidelity digital prototype on Figma.
Colors and Meaning:
We chose the name Ascend in order to instill a sense of confidence in users when rising up to their career transition, this also led to the logo design of the balloon. We wanted to incorporate blue and orange into our design because of the meaning behind them. Blue would provide users to feel trust and confidence, where as orange would bring in the success and encouragement aspect.
