Background

ShopTaki is a startup company working to developing a platform that acts as someones’s universal identity. Through a multilayer encryption system, the platform handles multiple aspects of one’s identity such as financials, medical, travel, messaging, different forms of ID, etc. Each component is a small part to a much larger platform. The app has a two-factor biometric authentication process, allowing only the user to have full control of their data.

Since ShopTaki is still in the developing stage, it doesn’t have active users yet. Our job was to design the initial onboarding process for new users. This aspect needs to be perfected by launch and ready for active users.

Discover

Survey Results:

Our team sent out screener surveys to help us determine what platforms/applications that our users prefer to use when using similar products. We also wanted to learn what type of device they preferred to use when accessing these platforms.

Results from 18 responses

User Interview Insights:

In our interviews, we also wanted to gain further insight into why users prefer certain platforms. This way, we could have a better idea of what to consider when moving forward with the design process. Below is what we learned:

  • Mobile is heavily favored among users.

  • When a platform is widely used, there is automatic trust in using it.

  • FaceID makes users feel more secure as well as provides them convenience.

  • Extra security steps are important for users, at times, even if friction is introduced.

Define

Persona:

Once we further compiled all of our interview data, our group was able to create Techie Tina, who was used as our anchor for the rest of the design process.

Problem Statement:

Tina needs a secure way to upload and verify her personal data so that she can easily and confidently manage her identity in one place.

How Might We:

  • How might we reassure Tina that her data is secure?

  • How might we streamline Tina’s document uploading process?

  • How might we help Tina to trust the Shoptaki platform?

Usability Testing on Current Product:

Our task for our primary usability tests was to see if users could complete the onboarding process and upload a form of ID. We did this to see how the company’s current product would make Techie Tina feel. Below is the feedback our group received:

Design Studio! ✎

After gathering all of our rich data from users and research it was time to put our pens to paper and start sketching! Our group individually sketched an onboarding process and then reconvened to see what part of each design we should incorporate moving forward. Below is our initial paper prototype:

Since Shoptaki already had a based product we made sure to keep the colors and typography similar in order to match their branding.
